Title : Clinical predictors and outcomes in patients with sepsis
Aim : To understand the factors influencing outcomes in patients with sepsis
Problem statement-Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by a dysregulated immune response to an infection. Despite advances in medical care, sepsis remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Early recognition and prompt treatment of sepsis are critical for improving outcomes
Therefore, the problem statement for exploring the diagnostic and therapeutic factors influencing outcomes in patients with sepsis is to identify the key clinical, laboratory, and imaging features that contribute to the early detection and accurate diagnosis of sepis
Additionally, there is a need to better understand the patient-related factors, such as age, comorbidities on the course and outcomes of sepsis. By addressing these healthcare providers can develop evidence based approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sepsis, ultimately reducing mortality rates and improving the quality of care for patients with sepsis.
Objectives :
1. To study the clinical predictors of sepsis
2. To asses the risk of morbidity and mortality using sepsis scores ( sofa, qsofa, )
3. To study the patient centered outcomes in patients with sepsis.
Methodology :
After taking a written consent from the patients/relatives, a detailed history is taken and a thorough physical and systemic examinations are performed according to self-designed case report forms. The case report forms, document the patient’s name, age, sex, comorbidities, risk factors associated with sepsis, and family history etc.
The findings of the clinical exam are also recorded in this case report form along with baseline sepsis scores at admission and in-hospital with localisation of sepsis at organ level, which includes the neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal system. Blood cultures and with selected panel of investigations are done to narrow down differentials and to get diagnosis.
